“Oh, yeah? Take me to bed and show me how much.”

“Done.” He chews on my neck, causing me to squirm and giggle. “Kam, you’re going to give me a hickey!”

“I know. I want you to have one that matches mine.” He bites down hard, and I squeal. “Kam!”

He laughs darkly before letting me go and grabs my hand. Hurrying me into our bedroom, he sits me down on the bed then disappears into his closet.

  “What are you doing?”

“Getting this.” He reappears, walks straight over to me, and drops to one knee. “Never take this ring off your finger again. Right here is where it belongs.” He slips the white gold band with magnificent diamond back onto my finger.

I admire it. “Yes, that’s definitely where it belongs. And I definitely belong with you.”

“Damn right, you do. Completely naked.” Kam attacks the clasp at the nape of my neck. He unfastens it in a nanosecond, causing the material to fall to my waist, exposing my bare breasts.

“Fuck, no bra,” he groans, tormented.

“No bra,” I confirm, and he smashes his mouth to mine, massaging both my breasts. We get swept away in the passionate moment, reconnecting, rebuilding, reforging the pathway back to us. Clothes are ripped from our bodies and thrown onto the floor without a second thought. There’s nothing left between us. No reservations or doubts or insecurities. We’re where we’re meant to be. With each other.

Kam runs his tongue all along my body, over my shoulders, between my heaving breasts, down the center of my torso, nibbling my hip bones until he rests right between my thighs. There’s no hesitation, no second thought, he just spreads my legs and claims what’s his. Eating me out with the force of a raging river. I writhe on the bed, my legs wrapped around his head, my hands cemented to his hair.

He swirls his tongue up then down, covering every inch of my slit several times over, stabbing into my entrance when I least expect, and latching onto my clit to close the deal. He sucks with the perfect amount of pressure to make me see stars, and when he sinks his finger inside me, delivering the final blow, I explode. My entire body shakes and my moans hit octaves I wasn’t aware my voice was capable of. Kam just continues to lick and finger me through the tremors, until my body can’t take any more and just gives out.

I lie limp on the bed, panting in my blissed-out state as Kam climbs up my body. He’s all power, raw and animalistic, raging to come.

I spread my legs, beckoning him inside me. This is what I want, what I need. Kam to take me, to own me, to love me. With a powerful thrust, he drives into me, and we both cry out. He’s harder than a rock and hungrier than a lion. My body responds, soaking his surging cock with excitement. With arousal.

“Fuck, Kam,” I can barely breathe as we both rock our hips as hard and fast as we can.

“Laney, it’s only you. It will only ever be you,” he pants, as he picks up the pace, the stroke of his cock becoming deeper and more aggressive.

We’re both gasping for air within a few seconds, the moment of impact pending.

“Kam, you’re going to make me come again.” My limbs lock up as his pelvis grazes my clit and his swollen erection fills me to the brim.

“That’s what I want. You to come all over me. All fucking over me.” The muscles on his back are as rigid as a mountain range as we fuck. My hair is matted from sweat, and my thighs are sore from all the physical tension, but it’s my core that traps me in the moment. Because when it finally catches fire, it burns me alive. I feel the orgasm everywhere, from the tips of my toes to the ends of my hair.

I latch onto Kam, spewing every curse word in the book as I come freely and gloriously. All my cells pulse, my eyelids flutter, and my pussy aches as he climaxes mere seconds after me.

We’re imprisoned within each other, and it’s a life sentence I will gladly live out. Because with Kam I can do anything and be anyone. He said I was his foundation, he’s definitely mine, too.

I felt it the first time he kissed me all those years ago. Before I met him, my feet were dangling, and after I met him, they were planted firmly on the ground.

“I love you, Laney,” he groans, high on ecstasy.

“I love you, too.” I touch his face, spent, satisfied, and spoken for by the boy who demanded my heart and the man who vows to keep it safe.

  Keep it forever.

We lie lazily soaking up the reconnection. “Does it hurt?” I touch the angry bruise on Kam’s neck.

“Only when someone pokes it.” He grits his teeth. I laugh apologetically.

  “Sorry.”

“It’s fine.” He tightens his arm around me and closes his eyes.

“You had a pretty rough weekend, huh? Almost getting decapitated twice? What do you think the odds of that are?” I ponder.

“A zillion to one, I’m sure.”

“Well, the odds have always been in your favor.”

  “Lucky me.”

“Yes, lucky you.” I pinch him.

  “Ouch! What was that for?”

“Just making sure you know how lucky you are.”

“I know. Trust me, I know. I was an emotional wreck there for a while. And I’m sorry.”

I lift my head, my dark hair falling over my shoulder like a veil. “You don’t have to be sorry. I know you carry around a lot of responsibility. And I know you care about your team like they’re a litter of puppies.”

“They definitely feel like a litter of puppies sometimes.” He snorts.

“My point is, what makes you so amazing is that you care so much. And I get it. I understand you.”

“I know you do. You always have.” Kam laces our fingers together and flashes my diamond in the rays of sunlight streaking through the wall of windows. Tiny rainbows dance on the surface. “Which is why I got this while I was away.” He shows me his wrist. It’s covered with a small bandage. I was so caught up in the makeup frenzy, I was completely oblivious to it.

“What did you do?” I perk up.

“Something that felt totally right. Peel it off.”

I do as he asks, detaching the tape gently while eager to see what’s underneath. Cursive writing comes into view with a small lemon on a branch strategically placed off to the side.

“Oh, my God, Kam. A tattoo?”

“Yup,” he states proudly. “Do you like?”

The inscription reads “Better than I was. More than I am.”

  I freakin’ disintegrate. “I love.” I pout.

“You love? Then what’s that face for?”

“Because I want a matching one. With a football, of course.”

Kam beams. “I’m sure we can arrange that.” He pulls me into his body and hugs me tightly. Our limbs tangled and skin warm.

This, right here, is the heart of everything. Of us. No spotlights, or reporters, or screaming fans. Just a simple southern boy and the sassy city girl he loves. The sassy city girl who loves him back. Who understands the myth, the man, the legend, and knows exactly who the true person is inside.

  Kam

I’M SO NERVOUS my hands are sweating and my collar is choking me.

I look out into the large crowd of our closest family and friends, and I wonder if they can pick up on my unease. I’m used to performing under pressure, but standing on this altar waiting for Laney to appear is the most nerve-wracking moment of my life. Big game pressure doesn’t hold a candle to your wedding day.

Just when I think I can’t take another second of waiting, the processional music begins. My stomach does somersaults as one by one Laney’s bridesmaids walk slowly down the long white runner dressed in dark purple carrying multicolored bouquets. The last six months have been a hurricane. Pulling this wedding together in such a short amount of time proved to be a monumental undertaking considering the size. But we did it. We worked together and pulled it off, and now here we are.

It’s how we do things. We’re a team.

In reality, she’s the quarterback and I’m her center. Here to
protect her. And I plan to do just that, for the rest of our lives.

The music suddenly changes to the wedding march, and all of our guests stand up. I’m so anxious I’m about to jump right out of my tux.

But when I see Laney suddenly appear, I feel nothing but calm. Everything just seems to fall into place. And despite being surrounded by the most magnificent gardens I have ever seen, nature’s beauty doesn’t compare to the woman walking toward me. The woman who believed in me when I didn’t, supported me when I felt most alone, and stood by me in my darkest hour.

I drink in every inch of her, wanting to commit this moment to memory—every detail of her dress, the way the sparkles of her bodice shine, the way the form-fitting material clings to her curves, and how the flair below her knees kicks up slightly with every step closer to me. But it’s the look on her face that will be ingrained in me forever. The slight, shy smile, a contrast to the excitement in her big blue eyes. That’s all for me. It’s all mine.

“Who gives this woman away?” the minister asks once Laney finally reaches us.

“I do,” Riley, her father, proudly announces as he hands her off to me. I’m speechless, barely able to breathe as she stands before me.

“Kam, are you okay?” Laney whispers. I’ve suddenly forgotten how to form sentences. A few silent moments pass before the minster chimes in. “I believe, my dear, you have taken his breath away.”

I nod. Yes, that. Totally, that.

Laney’s smile is blinding. “I guess you like the dress.”

“I love it. And you.” I lean in to kiss her without even thinking and the minister puts the kibosh on it with his hand.

“Save it for the end. I promise the wait will be worth it.” He winks, and the guests sitting in the front row laugh.

“The wait has been worth it.” Laney bares all, her eyes glassy with tears.

It sure as hell has, and all I can think, as the sun sets, turning the sky pink, is this is the most perfect twilight of my life.
